Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Pediatrics
Asthma is a common disease in children. This study was conducted at University Children's Hospital of Cairo University. It included 120 Egyptian asthmatic children. sixty of them were stable asthma and 60 were acute asthma, along with 60 healthy matched children were included as controls. Clinical examination, full blood picture and serum level of YKL -40 were done. YKL-40 was significantly higher in patients compared to controls (p-value < 0.001). Serum YKL-40 was significantly higher in acute asthmatics compared to stable asthmatics. The study concludes that YKL -40 might play a role in pediatric asthma
