Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Pediatrics Summary: FOXO3a proteins play multiple crucial roles in immune response, they regulate the cell cycle, apoptosis, life span, production of anti-inflammatory cytokine and maintaining excessive proliferation of T cells, neutrophils, and macrophages. FOXO3a gene regulate inflammatory processes within a number of inflammatory diseases such crohn{u2019}s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and Sjögren{u2019}s syndrome. The aim of our study is to detect the association between single nucleotide polymorphism of the FOXO3a gene and bronchial asthma in Egyptian children. Subjects and methods: This is a case control study, 75 asthmatic children with varying degree of severity, aged more than 4 years following in pulmonology outpatient clinic in Children's hospital Cairo university and studied in comparison to 75 healthy age and sex matched children with no history of asthma, or other allergic diseases, with no history of 1st degree relative of BA, or atopic disease. Determination of FOXO3a gene polymorphism by PCR- RFLP (polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism) was done
