Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Institute of African Research and Studies - Department of Natural Resources
Growth and nitrogen uptake by sorghum plants were enhanced by bacterial inoculation, high rate of mineral fertilizer and chicken manure addition. These parameters were differed according to soil types where it was higher under clay and arable sand soils than those of virgin sandy one. Plants were mainly dependent on Nitrogen derived from air (N2-fixation) with medium rate of mineral fertilizer (50%) and significantly affected by soil types and organic sources. In the same time, uninoculated plants were mainly dependent on mineral N derived from chemical fertilizer. Nitrogen released from organic resources was correlated to its origin and behavior as affected by soil types. Efficient use of mineral fertilizer by plants was higher in case of uninoculated plants than inoculated ones and in clay soil as compared to others.Organic sources especially chicken manure significantly enhanced %NUE
