Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Electrical Power and Machines Summary: The power grid system is growing larger and larger, and complexity of power system operation also increasing. Power transmission lines are vital components in electric power system. This thesis presents a technique for protection power transmission lines. The proposed protection technique is applied to Egyptian 500 kV transmission line system using MATLAB Simulink. The main idea of the proposed technique is the use of the symmetrical components to identify the faulty area, identify the faulty transmission line connected to the faulty area. Then classify the internal fault. The technique covers different types of fault at different locations
