Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering Summary: A full nonlinear analysis is implemented using MATLAB to solve 3D trusses and 2D frames. The proposed analysis considers nonlinear geometry, inelastic material and initial out of straightness. This program is verified using common benchmark problems. The analysis results using the proposed 3D truss element show more logic results compared with the analysis using the equivalent out of straightness. This advanced analysis provides some important results concerning the behavior of the post buckling and shows major differences compared with typical designs using the linear analysis
