Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - National Cancer Institute - Department of Surgical Oncology Summary: Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most frequent endocrine neoplasm. Most often the first symptom of thyroid cancer is a nodule in the thyroid region of the neck.ultrasound is performed to confirm the presence of a nodule and assess the statues of whole gland,.One approach used to determine whether the nodule is malignant or not is the fine needle biopsy (FNB), which some have described as the most coast-effective, sensitive and accurate test.If the nodule is malignant or has indeterminate cytologic features .it may require surgery. Common surgeries include lobectomy, thyroidectomy and trachestomy. Radioactive iodine-131 is used in patients with papillary or follicular thyroid cancer for ablation of residual thyroid tissue after surgery and for the treatment of thyroid cancer.As DTC are TSH dependant cancer, Eltroxin in high suppressive dose is vital part of post operative management. The follow up portocol including the Ultrasonograpgy and thyroiglobuline level for early detection of recurrence
