A sizeable population of Egypt is dependent on economy based on tourism. Sadly, the political turnmoil as well as the dilapidated state of the natural environment has resulted in a dip in the tourism industry in the last decade. Furthermore, the red sea coast stands effected due to the unchecked touristic development, which directly impacts the coral reefs as well as other natural habitats. This study aims at understanding the shortcomings of the ongoing touristic development in Egypt and further aims at finding a solution by researching in the field of sustainable tourism related to the development of the city. The study area for the thesis is the historic core of the city of Quseir which stands dilapidated by the red sea coast and is in deperate need of revitalization. This thesis thus examines the way forward with sustainable tourism on the red sea coast through challenging classic development scenarios and aims at reviving the economy of the town while preserving the social, cultural and environmental assets of the area
