Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine- Department of Operative Dentistry Summary: Background and aims: Enhancing remineralization is the main goal in clinical prevention of caries lesion. The present clinical trial aimed to assess the remineralizing effect of grape seed extract (GSE) versus Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (CPP-ACP) in carious white spot lesions in post orthodontic patients. Materials and Methods: Twenty-Four patients were selected from the Clinic of Orthodontic Dentistry Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University. Patients were divided into two groups according to the treatment received either GSE gel (NuSci® Grape Seed Extract pure powder) or CPP-ACP paste application (Tooth-Mousse Recaldent{u2122}). GSE gel was used on WSLs after orthodontic treatment every week, while CPP-ACP paste applied twice daily by the patients themselves. After treatment, all patients received the same post-operative instructions and scheduled for the assigned follow up appointments (1, 3 and 6 months). Quantitative changes ofWSLs were measured by KaVo DIAGNOdent. Results: Data were analyzed using Two-way ANOVA showed that there was no statistically significant difference in overall DIAGNOdent mean readings between grape seed and GC Tooth Mousse groups at P=0.360. Conclusion: Based on the data obtained in this study, it is suggested that GSE promote remineralization of WSLs post orthodontic treatment, and thus, might be considered an effective natural agent for treatment of early enamel carious lesions
