Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Radio-diagnosis Summary: Diagnosis of the stage of liver fibrosis is essential for making a prognosis and deciding an antiviral therapy. Liver biopsy is the gold standard for fibrosis staging but it is an invasive and painful procedure, with rare but potentially life threatening complications. And it is contraindicated in the presence of some conditions as coagulopathy and thrombocytopenia. And that was the cause to search for other non-invasive measures; the most accurate one of them was transient Elastography (fibroscan).Aim of work: To correlate the accuracy of Transient Elastography (Fibroscan) with liver biopsy and histopathology as a monitoring tool for fibrosis progress in patients with chronic hepatitis C. Patients and methods: Our study included 30 chronic hepatitis C patients and for them routine investigations, ultrasound guided liver biopsy and liver stiffness measurement using fibroscan were done. Results: The correlation of liver biopsy results with fibroscan scores showed highly significant agreement; the highest matching in F4 and the lowest in F2, that means that fibroscan has a perfect matching with liver biopsy in the detection of hepatic fibrosis and follow up of its progression
