The vulnerability of pregnant women to violence and to their consequences is an alarming public health issue in developing countries and calls for the design and implementation of better preventive strategies. The aim of this study was to examine the patterns and risk factors of domestic violence during pregnancy. A purposive sample of 520 pregnant women was recruited for this study from The Outpatient Clinic of El Manial maternity Hospital- Cairo University and The Outpatient Clinic of El Galaa Maternity Hospital according to the selected criteria. Design, descriptive Correlational design was adopted. Data were collected by a structured interviewing questionnaire and domestic violence assessment tool. Results indicated that, young pregnant women, with low socio-economic status and those who live in rural areas were more likely to be at risk for domestic violence. Also, women whose husbands are addicts or have an aggressive personality were more vulnerable for domestic violence. The results proved that, interference of family into the spouse{u2019}s life and neglecting domestic work have a significant relation with the domestic violence. Psychological and physical violence have the higher degree of severity of domestic violence respectively. The study recommended that, Screening of domestic violence should be one of the antenatal routine care, Mass media should be utilized for dissemination of information about domestic violence during pregnancy and its effect on the pregnant woman and the pregnancy outcome and recommended for further studies
