The aim of this thesis is to investigate the impact of ecology on the quality of life of Nuba Mountains people in North Kordofan – Sudan. In more detail, an exploration is done on the effect of aspects such as the housing, agriculture, food, natural environment, traditional medicine, and traditional arts and crafts, on Nuba Mountains people’s social functioning level, physical health condition, economic situation, and psychological state. Using observation, interviews, fieldwork, and photography, data was collected starting 2008 in the Nuba-Mountains in North Kordofan – Sudan, and ended with the nineteen face-to face interviews conducted in August 2024. Results showed that the natural environment, housing and agricultural conditions, food and traditional arts, have a positive impact on the sample’s social functioning level, economic situation, and psychological state. However, the traditional medicine available has a negative impact on the sample’s physical health condition, and partially on their psychological state that occasionally gets affected by the loss of beloved ones due to poor medical care service/support. Departing from there, the researcher is addressing a call to global organizations to support the Nuba-Mountains area by allowing access to medical care services, building hospitals, offering medication, building schools and offering proper education. Additionally, after discovering the resources richness in the area, there is a call to the governments and peace-making organizations to help stop the war in this location, and to collaborate instead on an economic level, so that everyone can benefit from the available resources fought over.

تهدف هذه الرسالة إلى دراسة تأثير البيئة على جودة نوعية حياة سكان جبال النوبا في إقليم شمال كردفان، السودان. على وجه التحديد، تم استكشاف تأثير عوامل الإسكان، الزراعة، الغذاء، البيئة الطبيعية، الطب التقليدي، الفنون والحرف التقليدية على المستوى الاجتماعي، الحالة الصحية ، الوضع الاقتصادي، والحالة النفسية لهذا المجتمع. بدأت عملية جمع البيانات منذ عام 2008، وشملت الملاحظة، المقابلات، الأبحاث الميدانية، التصوير الفوتوغرافي، وانتهت بتسعة عشر مقابلة أُجريت في أغسطس 2024.
تشير النتائج إلى أن البيئة الطبيعية، وظروف الإسكان والزراعة، والغذاء، والفنون التقليدية لها تأثير إيجابي على الأداء الاجتماعي للمشاركين، والوضع الاقتصادي، والحالة النفسية. من ناحية أخرى، فإن الطب التقليدي المتوفر له تأثير سلبي على الصحة البدنية وأحيانًا على الحالة النفسية، خاصة بسبب فقدان الأحباء نتيجة للرعاية الطبية غير الكافية.
في ضوء هذه النتائج، يدعو الباحث المنظمات العالمية لدعم منطقة جبال النوبا من خلال تسهيل الوصول إلى الرعاية الطبية، وبناء المستشفيات، وتوفير الأدوية، وبناء المدارس، وضمان التعليم الجيد. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، وبالنظر إلى غنى المنطقة بالموارد، هناك دعوة للحكومات ومنظمات السلام للعمل نحو إنهاء الصراع في المنطقة وتعزيز التعاون الاقتصادي الذي يعود بالفائدة على جميع الأطراف.
