K. pneumoniae confer resistance to most Beta-lactamase including extended spectrum cephalosporins such as third generation cephalosporins (cefotaxime and ceftazidime) and fourth generation cephalosporins (cefepime) which are considered the primary treatment agents in nosocomial infections
