Clinical studies suggest that asthma is a heterogeneous disorder with distinct types of inflammatory processes. Accumulating evidence suggests that aberrant interleukin (IL)-17 production is a key determinant of severe forms of asthma. The study was conducted on 21 patients with uncontrolled asthma, 19 patients with controlled asthma and 20 healthy individuals as control group during the period from November 2014 to December 2015.Objectives to determine quantitatively gene expression of IL-17 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMN) and the level of IL-17 in the serum of patients with asthma, to correlate the level of IL-17 with the severity of asthma and to compare between gene expression of IL-17 and its serum level. Higher serum levels and mRNA gene expression of IL-17 was found in patients with uncontrolled asthma compared to patients with controlled asthma and healthy control group patient, as regarding to age, BMI, smoking there was statistically significant difference between uncontrolled asthma group and both controlled asthma and control groups. Notably all subjects in the control group were nonsmokers. We concluded that asthma is an extremely complex disease and the infiltration of different immune cells results in different pathological processes. Although asthma is usually well controlled with inhaled corticosteroids and long acting Ý2 agonists, a minority of patients have uncontrolled asthma in spite of these treatments
