Summary: Background: Healthcare workers are the most common category of population exposed to work related musculoskeletal disorders causing prolonged postural abnormalities and pain which negatively affects productivity and quality of life. Purpose: To compare and assess the correlation between thoracic kyphosis angle and shoulder ROMs, proprioception and function among healthcare workers in two different age groups (30- 39) years old and (40-49) years old. Material and methods: Study design is cross-sectional, observational and comparative study. Forty-five participants of both gender with thoracic kyphosis detected by screening measurements at the start. Their ages ranged from 30-49 years old and their thoracic kyphotic angle (TKA) ranged according to age into 2 groups; group (A) 16 participants their ages from (30-39) years old and include participants with TKA was more than 29.04 degree in male and 28.42 degree in female while group (B) their ages from (40-49) years old and include participants with TKA was more than 29.75 degree in male and 32.66 degree in female. A bubble inclinometer was used to measure both thoracic kyphotic angle, shoulder ROMs and joint position sense (JPS) of dominant arm among healthcare workers. Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) was used to assess shoulder function. Unpaired t test compared TKA and shoulder ROMs, proprioception and function between groups. Also, Pearson correlation coefficient correlation was made to obtain the relation between the TKA, shoulder ROMs, proprioception (JPS), pain intensity and function activities. Results: No significant difference in shoulder adduction, external and internal rotation ROM between groups at (p > 0.05). A significant difference in TKA, shoulder flexion, abduction JPE, shoulder pain and disability were detected between groups at (p<0.05). A significant difference in shoulder flexion, extension and abduction ROM was detected between groups at (p<0.05). A moderate negative correlation between TKA and shoulder flexion, abduction, external rotation ROM was detected. There was no correlation between TKA and shoulder extension, adduction and internal rotation ROM (p > 0.05). There was a moderate positive correlation between TKA and flexion, abduction JPE, pain and function activities. Conclusion: it was concluded that kyphosis angle was correlated with many of shoulder movements, proprioception and function. Therefore, dorsal spine assessment could be considered during evaluation of shoulder joint and vice versa.
