Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty Of Medicine - Department Of Community Medicine Summary: Adescriptive cross - sectional study was conducted on a group of dental health care workers (200 dentists and 50 nurses) working in the National Research Centre and the General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and InstitutesTheir knowledge , attitude , and practice were assessed and the practice of a sub sample of 50 dentists and 10 nurses was observed , aiming to decrease the transmission of HBV , HCV , and HIV through dental clinicsThe mean knowledge , attitude , and practice scores were calculated for both groupsKnowledge score was 459 ± 405 for dentists and 3804 ± 82 for nurses (out of a total score of 52) Attitude score was 137 ± 04 (out of a total score of 14) for dentists and 105 ± 07 (out of a total score of 11) for nursesPractice score was 247 ± 26 (out of a total score of 28) for dentists and 199 ± 24 (out of a total score of 22) for nursesThe study concluded that there was a gap between dentists' knowledge , attitude and their practice while nurses' knowledge and practice need improvementContinuous education programs and training courses regarding infection - control are recommended for dental health care workersMore attention to the availability of critical supplies needed for infection - control in dental clinics is required
