Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - Department of Microbiology Summary: The present study aimed to identify different bacterial species causing embryonic death in ostrich eggs in Ismailia Governorate. The isolates were identified with the ordinary bacteriological methods as well as with PCR. A total of 50 ostrich egg samples including 5 non- fertile eggs, 41 dead- in- shell embryos at 39 days of age, 4 contained dead embryos at 28 days of age. These randomly collected samples were subjected to aerobic bacteriological examination in a trial to detect the actual bacterial causes of this problem. (73.17 %) of the examined ostrich dead-in-shell embryos were positive for bacterial isolation. The result of bacterial isolation revealed that Klebsiella species were the most prevalent organisms isolated from ostrich dead {u2013}in- shell embryos with an incidence of( 22.76 % )and from infertile eggs with an incidence of (20%) and it is the only organism isolated from infertile eggs
