Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Ophthalmology
Objective: Evaluation of the retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell complex (GCC) thickness in diabetic patients , glaucoma patients and diabetic-glaucoma patients to determine the impact of diabetes mellitus on the diagnosis of glaucoma using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Also, Correlation of the pattern of the retinal nerve fiber layer loss with visual Field changes (Pattern of field Loss, Mean deviation MD, Pattern Standard Deviation PSD) using Humphrey visual field analyzer in a cohort of patients attending Ophthalmology Clinics of Cairo university Hospitals. Study Design: An Observational Cross Sectional Comparative Study. Methods: 60 eyes were recruited from 38 patients attending the outpatient opthalmology clinic and glaucoma subspeciality clinics of Cairo University Hospitals. The studied cases were divided into three groups, each included 20 eyes: First Group included diabetic patients, Second Group: glaucoma patients, and Third Group: diabetic-glaucoma patients. Comparitive study was done between those three groups regarding their demoghraphic data, clinical assessment and evaluation, visual field interpretation and SD-OCT analysis
