Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Dermatology Summary: Skin warts (verrucae vulgaris) are benign proliferative lesions of the epidermal cells. Angiogenesis and vasodilatation are said to be associated with the development of common skin warts in previous reports. In a previous trial to investigate the possible cause of angiogenesis in skin warts, VEGF expression was found to be not associated with angiogenesis or vasodilatation in skin warts. Angiopoietins, as angiogenesis factors, have not been studied before in warts. This study was conducted for assessment of the level of Ang1, Ang 2 and Tie2 in common warts and to verify their possible role as angiogenisis factors. The study included 50 patients with common skin warts and 50 healthy controls who are age and sex matched, a - 4- mm punch skin biopsy was taken from the lesional skin of patients and normal skin of the healthy controls for detection of gene expression of angiopioetin1, angiopioetin 2 and Tie2 using real time PCR technique
