Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Archaeology - Department of Conservation Summary: This study is divided into seven chapters, the contents of which can be summarized as follows: Chapter 1: Some natural resins and oils used in mummification and their deterioration This chapter containsthe different uses of resins in mummification and conservation processes, the beginning of the resin use in the artificial mummification,the state of resin during its application on mummies, the body position during application of resins and the embalmers defects while applying these materials,characterization of some resins and oils used in mummification process,deterioration processes of natural resins and oils used in mummification. Chapter 2: Materials and Methods This chapter contains materials and different analytical methods used in the field survey, experimental and applied studies. Chapter 3: Results and discussion of the investigation methods for evaluation of the preservative organic mixtures applied on archaeological mummies: Field survey This chapter presents identification of the chemical composition and deterioration aspects for the organic mixture samples which were collected from different sites. Chapter 4: Results and discussion for evaluating of some natural resins used for the consolidation process of mummies: Comparative study In this chapter, the results of analysis and investigation for treated and aged treated linen samples with different polymers are discussed
