Vertebrate fossil collecting in Fayum area has been prformed through different phases of activity . The most important phase is outlined here started in 1977 through a joint project between Duke University and Egyptian Geological Survery and Mining Authority represented by Egyptian Geological Museum . The Cairo Geological Museum in Egypt has the best documented collection of anthracotheres from the oligocene of the Qatrani formation
