Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of E.N.T Summary: Meningoceles/meningoencephaloceles are abnormal herniations of the meninges, or both brain and meninges beyond the confines of the cranium. They were grouped by anatomic location into occipital, sincipital, and basal. Basal variants occur anywhere along the cribriform plate, fovea ethmoidalis, sphenoid bone, or temporal bone. A meningocele or meningoencephalocele may occur in association with CSF rhinorrhea. There are no studies till now that focus or discuss the prevalence of either congenital or acquired MC/MEC in CSF rhinorrhea patients or provide any commentary on the exact location of MC/MEC occurring across the anterior or middle skull base, with most authors commenting on the gross sinus location only
