Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering- Department of Civil Engineering
Self-compacting concrete (SCC) represents one of the most significant advances in concrete technology. One of the most important differences between SCC and traditional concrete is the incorporation of mineral additions, which improve particle packing and decrease the permeability of concrete. Therefore, the durability of concrete is also increased. The aim of this thesis is to study the feasibility of using waste powders generated from marble and granite industries (i.e., marble powder, granite powder and mixed marble and granite powder) as mineral additives in SCC and their influence on the properties of concrete. To achieve this objective, the experimental program was divided into two phases. The first phase aims to determine the optimum percentage of marble and granite waste powder in SCC. The second phase includes the investigation of the physical, mechanical and durability properties of SCC mixes containing the optimum percentage of marble and granite waste powders
