Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a condition in which the body does not generate enough insulin or does not respond to it properly, resulting in excessively high blood glucose levels. In type 1 diabetes, the body's immune system targets the pancreatic insulin- producing cells, destroying more than 90% of them permanently. Type 1 diabetes strikes the majority of people before they reach the age of 30. Increased thirst, urination, and hunger are all signs of elevated blood glucose levels. Diabetics' wounds heal slowly, where there is a lot of inflammation, and the epithelization process takes a long time. The present study aimed to evaluate the local effect of grape seed extract (GSE) on induced diabetic wound healing in rats. Ninety healthy male Sprague dawly rats were assigned into five main groups: Group I: normal rats received no treatment, group II: rats with wounds that treated with either vaseline (V) or V/GSE, group III: rats with Staphylococcus aureus infected wounds that treated with either vaseline or V/GSE, group IV: diabetic rats with wounds that treated with either vaseline or V/GSE and group V: diabetic rats with Staphylococcus aureus infected wounds that treated with either vaseline or V/GSE. Animals were injected with 60 mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ) for the induction of type 1 diabetes. To make a vaseline-based ointment, GSE was homogeneously mixed with pure vaseline (2%).The wound was treated twice a day with vaseline or V/GSE. The histopathological examination of skin sections from different experimental groups was in agreement with the immunological results, where V/GSE succeeded in healing of wounds in diabetic rats
