The efficiency of nine different fungal species to produce 11Ü - hydroxyprogesterone from progesterone was investigated. The most active species Mucor racemosus produced 11Ü-HP output (54%) and two other transformation products. The transformation products were separated and characterized on the basis of their GC / MS analysis as 11Ü - hydroxyprogesterone (11Ü - HP) as main product (I); 4-pregnen- 18 - al - 11Ý, 21 - diol - 3,20 - dione (Aldosterone) (II) and 20 - hydroxy- 5Ü- pregnan- 18 - oic acid (III) as minor products. The effect of different media was also studied. The maximum bioconversion efficiency was recorded by a medium having the following composition (g / l): glucose, 20; peptone, 1; yeast, 1; KH₂PO₄, 0.74; MgSO₄.7H₂O, 1; L-asparagine, 0.7
