Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Pediatrics Summary: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is the most common auto- inflammatory disease which requires a lifelong treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the depression and anxiety in pediatric FMF patients and parenting stress in their parents. The Children{u2019}s Depression Inventory (CDI), the Screen for Child Anxiety-related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) and Parent stress index (short form) (PSI), were the instruments used. Fifty FMF patients and 50 healthy controls were compared. Both study and control groups were divided into two age groups, 6{u2013}12 and 13{u2013}18 years. This study suggested that FMF patients (children and adolescents) were considerably more depressed and anxious than their healthy peers and their parents were more stressed than parents of their healthy peers (p>0.001). Psychosocial assessment of children with FMF and their parents has potential clinical implications and individualized counseling and interventions are needed
