Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Astronomy and Meteorology Summary: This thesis examined the choice of the best suitable type silicon solar cell to be used at the studied sites. In the case of wavelength 950nm, it is found that it has the lowest relative dispersion. For polycrystalline silicon solar cell it is found that the highest value of the spectral response of the electric current is at wavelength 875nm for the two urban and rural sites under consideration with slight decreasing in rural area than urban area. Consequently, polycrystalline silicon solar cell is more efficient in urban area than the amorphous and vice versa. For amorphous silicon solar cell, it is found that the highest value of the spectral response of the electric current is at wavelength 550 nm for the two sites with no depression at noon time as in urban area
