Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Nursing - Department of Pediatric Nursing Summary: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a group of inherited autosomal recessive hemolytic disorders. Sickle cell disease causes inappropriate quality of sleep that affect disease course. So understanding causes of sleep disturbance among these children which in turn will improve children health outcomes and quality of life. Aim of the study: to assess factors causing sleep disturbances among school age children with SCD. Research design: A descriptive exploratory design was conducted. Sample: A purposive sample of 50 children who had SCD and attend the outpatient clinic of hematology for follow up and eligible for inclusion criteria. Setting: This study was carried out at outpatient clinic of hematology at Elmonera pediatric Hospital, Cairo university (EPHCU) which is affiliated to Cairo university Hospitals. Tools of data collection: there were 4 tools which were: 1- A personal characteristics and medical history sheet, 2- Knowledge assessment questionnaire, 3- Sleeping disturbance scale for children and 4- A structured questionnaire to assess factors causing sleep disturbance. Results: the study result revealed that more than two thirds of children were between 6 < 9 years with mean ± standard deviation of age 8.5400 ± 1.71975 years and about two thirds of them were males, majority of children suffer from mild sleep disturbance, minority of them suffer from moderate and severe sleep disturbance. There were statistically significant relationships between children{u2019}s sleep disturbance level and environmental, psychological, medical and treatment factors
