Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Botany-Microbiology
Plant tissue culture techniques were used to micropropagate four watermelon cultivars, i.e., giza1, charleston gary, sugar baby, crimson sweet and one line, i.e., S.B76. Adventitious shoot regeneration from shoot tip and immature cotyledons explants of watermelon was established. Explants at 3 {u2013} 7 - days - old were cultured on MS medium containing BA or Kin, each applied at (0, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 mg l⁻¹). The highest number of regenerating shoots per explants MS medium containing 2.0 mg l⁻¹ BA. The highest shoot formation and lowest hyperhydricity were achieved when MS medium supplemented with 0.3 mg l⁻¹ IBA + 1.0 mg l⁻¹ BA + 0.0 mg l⁻¹ Kin or MS medium with 0.3 mg l⁻¹ IBA + 2.0 mg l⁻¹ BA + 0.0 mg l⁻¹ Kin were used during two subculture
