Thesis (M.A) - Cairo University - Faculty of Arts - Department of English
Arab-Canadian nationalism is a complex area that ties into definitions of identity, issues of diaspora and relations of cultural roots. The complexity of such an area leads to the search or the attempt to create a home that embraces these ramifications, and consequently creates an imagined nation of Arab-Canadians who share similar experiences as transmigrants. Subsequently, the produced image of home or nation is a simulation that is reshaped and reproduced across texts in various genres. This thesis will investigate the simulations of Canadian nationalism from the perspective of cosmodern modality produced and reproduced across different genres of Arab-Canadian texts, ranging from poetry to fiction to stand-up comedy. The thesis will answer questions related to the role of Canadian culture, which is both multicultural and transnational at the same time, in the formation of the Arab-Canadian national identity manifested in works of Arab-Canadian poets, writers, and comedians
