Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Medicine - Department of Cardiology Summary: Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death worldwide. Aging is unavoidable coronary risk factor and associated with dermatological signs that could be a marker for increase coronary risk, we tested the hypothesis that hair graying as a visible age-related sign associated with risk of ischemic heart disease independent of chronological age. This prospective observation study included 545 males who underwent a multi-slice computed tomography coronary angiography (MSCT CA) for suspicion of coronary artery disease (CAD), Patients were divided into different subgroups according to the percentage of gray/white hairs and to absence or presence of CAD. The majority of the studied population (80%) showed significant CAD with mean age of 53.2±10.7 yrs. Hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia were more prevalent in CAD group (P=0.001, P=0.001, and P=0.003) respectively. Patients with higher HWS (predominate white hair) had significant CAD when compared with those without CAD (32.1 vs. 60.1% P<0.001). Multivariate regression analysis showed that hair whitening score (OR: 1.522, 95% CI: [1.289-1.798], p<0.001), hypertension (OR: 2.150 , 95% CI: [1.398-3.304], p<0.001), diabetes (OR: 2.352, 95% CI: [1.437-3.852], p=0.001) and dyslipidemia (OR: 1.912, 95% CI: [1.246-2.933], p=0.003) were the most important predictors of atherosclerotic CAD and only age (p<0.001) was found as independent predictors of hair grayin
