Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.)-Cairo University, 2022. Summary: The present study was carried out to compare the retention of two groups of frameworks having different types of materials. Both frameworks were used to retain four implant-supported mandibular overdentures. Retention was evaluated using universal testing machine after mechanical aging that was carried out using chewing simulator. The intervention group was the milled PEEK framework group while control group was the milled Co-Cr framework group. One epoxy models of completely edentulous mandible were constructed and prepared to receive four implants in each model. Six frameworks were constructed; three milled Co-Cr frameworks and three milled PEEK frameworks. Then retention values were measured at baseline using universal testing machine and then the models in each group were subjected to different chewing cycles 12500 and 37500 cycles using ROBOTA chewing simulator. Both the milled cobalt-chromium and milled PEEK groups showed a statistically significant decrease in retention when subjected to different cycles. At baseline, Group C recorded (15.552 ± 1.408) while Group P recorded (8.130 ± 0.885). After 12500 cycles (1 month), Group C recorded (14.818 ± 1.286) while Group P recorded (5.667 ± 0.886) and after 37500cycles (3 months), Group C recorded (9.319 ± 1.374), while Group P recorded (4.418 ± 0.844) with P<0.0001. The overall % change in retention recorded (-40.078%) in Group C while it recorded (-48.98%) in Group P. The present study was carried out to compare the retention of two groups of frameworks having different types of materials.
