Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Chemical Engineering
The present thesis presents the details of a techno-economic study for the synthesis of aprocess modification to the light ends processing section in Assuit refinery. The target of the process design modification is to make use of excess light naphtha available at Assuit refinery to produce higher added value liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and stabilized naphtha. This work is intended to study possible use of a redundantcolumn as the heart of a new light naphtha stabilization train to increase LPG and stabilized naphtha production at a minimum investment cost. The main feature of the work is that process design is tailored to the actual prevailing conditions within the refinery. Three possible alternative modifications, all appropriated to the hydrodynamic and separation capacity of the existing column, are analyzed. Aspen HYSYS© process simulation software was used for rating of the additional ancillary equipment and the calculation of utility requirements for each of the studied schemes. The annual fixed and operating costs are compared with the additional revenues arising from separation of the light naphtha into stabilized naphtha and LPG in each case
