Dissertation note: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Arts - Department of English Summary: The study employs an eclectic approach, comprising a comparative, qualitative analysis of Euronews channel's news texts in the English language and their Arabic translated versions online, drawing mainly on van Dijk's socio-cognitive approach of critical discourse analysis (2001), his ideological strategies (2004) and ideological square (1998b). In addition, the study makes use of critical linguistics (CL) (Fowler et al. 1979), Halliday's systematic functional linguistics (SFL) (2004) and van Leeuwen's framework of representing social actors (1996). To realize this purpose, textual structures of both source text (ST) and target text (TT), that are directed to different readers, are compared and related to their political, social and historical contexts to show whether they convey the same message or deviate from the original message for ideological and political purposes. Many changes and differences have been traced in the translated text, both on the micro and macro levels. The Findings of the study reveal that in Euronews reporting, the representation of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and the events in Egypt after 30 June Revolution have salient ingroup-outgroup polarization characteristics
