Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering Summary: This research studies the behavior of concrete filled steel tubes under torsion. The finite element method is used to model rectangular cross-section concrete filled steel tubes (CFST) subjected to pure torsion, and the model is verified using experimental data available from the literature. Ultimate torsion strength of composite section recorded in this analytical program is compared with plastic torsion strength of hollow section according to AISC standards to represent the concrete contribution in the torsional strength of composite section. An equation is proposed to predict the ultimate torsional strength of concrete filled steel tubes
