Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Physical Therapy - Department of Physical Therapy for Surgery
Purpose: The current study was conducted to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of exercises and TNEs stimulation as physical therapy approaches in improving femoral neuropathy after renal transplantation. Subjects Thirty patients of both sexes suffered from femoral neuropathy after renal transplantation were selected and recruited randomly from different Hospitals (in urological surgeries units). Patient's ages ranged from 45-60 years. Method: These patients were divided into two equal groups in number: Group A (Exercise therapy group): In this group of the study, fifteen patients were received transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation 30 minutes 3 times per week for 12 weeks and exercises plus medical and nursing care. Group B (control group): In this group, fifteen patients were received only medical and nursing cares. Measurements were conducted before starting the treatment as a first record, at the end of 12 weeks of treatment as second record. Results: This study showed a significant increase the Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) (m/s) after twelve weeks of treatment application of Exercise therapy group (group A) has a significant increase when compared with control group (group B) (p=0.009).The knee extensors after twelve weeks of treatment application of exercise therapy group (group A) has a significant increase when compared with control group (group B) (p=0.019) and the Hip flexors after twelve weeks of treatment application of Exercise therapy group (group A) has a significant increase when compared with control group (group B) (p=0.029). Conclusion: Usage of exercises and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation produce objective improvement on nerve conduction velocity and muscle strength after renal transplantation
