Thesis (M.A.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Arts - Department of English
The thesis is a study of the Hispanic -American experience in three selected novels by Oscar Hijuelos: Our house in the last world (1983), his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel the Mambo Kings play songs of love (1989) and empress of the Splendid Season (1999). The research analyses Hijuelos's dramatic portrayal of the trials and tribulations of émigré life in the selected novels and sheds light on the collision of dreams with the harsh American reality; a theme which has been Oscar Hijuelos's prime engagement
