Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Physical Therapy - Department of Physical Therapy for Surgery Summary: Surgical scar is a major complication that can compromise the quality of life and patient satisfaction and need intensive intervention. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of kinesio taping on overall scar appearance. Thirty patients of both sexes underwent abdominal surgery, and have surgical scar would be participated in this study, their ages was ranged from 20 - 35 years. The patients were subdivided randomly into two equal groups (15 patients for each group): Group A: (kinesio taping group): They received kinesio taping application in addition to their medical treatment (in the form of scaro cream [twice daily] and cataflam ampoules [once daily]) and traditional physical therapy treatment (in the form of ultra sound and deep friction massage). Group B: (control group): They received their medical treatment (in the form of scaro cream [twice daily] and cataflam ampoules [once daily]) in addition to their traditional physical therapy treatment (in the form of ultra sound and deep friction massage) only. All patients were evaluated before and after 12 weeks of treatment application. The evaluation procedures were achieved through ultrasonography (to measure the subcutaneous parts of the scar and to quantify scar thickness) and digital photography (to measure scar color). Application of kinesio taping in combination with traditional physical therapy treatment (in the form of ultra sound and deep friction massage) on post surgical scar cause more significant improvement and reduction of scar thickness than traditional physical therapy alone
