Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering
In the studied system of central cable plane PC cable stayed bridges, the girder is rigidly supported at pylons. This requires elastomeric bearings to transfer the total loads to main piers. Three FE models are proposed and analyzed. Experimental and analytical modal characteristics are compared to verify the numerical model using ambient vibration analysis. The mutual effects between cable forces and deck longitudinal prestressing are investigated to clarify the contribution of deck prestressing in saving the mass of cables. The prestressing system of inverted V tendons through inclined struts in the box section is analyzed to efficiently distribute loads across the deck. Pounding between the deck and main pier through shear key is analyzed under seismic excitations
