Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Electrical Power and Machines Summary: The renewable energy sources such as wind energy, solar energy play an important role in electric power generation, it is clean and unlimited. In this thesis, the mathematical model of the SRG drive is derived. PV system and Incremental Conductance Technique(ICT) was designed to maximize the energy received from solar cells by tracking the maximum power point . This research studies the use of STATCOM as type of (FACTS) at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) to regulate terminal voltage of the wind- PV hybrid generation systems during grid side disturbances like voltage swelling and voltage sagging. The PSO and GA technique is applied in this to adjust the PI voltage controller parameters of STATCOM. It is worth mentioning that the PSO technique gives better performance and converges faster than GA
