Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Geophysics Summary: Nile delta basin is a sedimentary basin that lies in the north part of Egypt extending from the onshore to the offshore area below the Mediterranean Sea. The exploration activities in the Nile-Delta have been started since 1960 in the onshore part, in the last two decades It witnessed increase in exploration activities for Natural Gas resources and proved to be one of the world class gas producing areas. North Abu Qir (study area) is located offshore Nile delta basin 35 km to the north of Alexandria, it has been producing mainly gas with some liquids since 80s. the main producing formations are Kafr El Sheikh and Abu Madi which are Pliocene and Messinean in age respectively. After 30 years of exploration and production of the Messinean and shallower levels, new addition of hydrocarbon resources in the area is essential to increase field{u2019}s life span.According to The U.S. Geological Survey Huge estimated reserves (estimated means of 1.8 billion barrels of recoverable oil, 223 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas, and 6 billion barrels of natural gas liquids) lies in the Nile Delta basin province most of these reserves are present in deep targets (Miocene and deeper). This huge estimates beside the fact that the field is at its end life span lead to the necessity of exploring the Miocene section (Deep Targets) of the area that is expected to hold a huge amount of hydrocarbons still undiscovered
