Back ground Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder of uncertain etiology. The data provide evidence for widespread vitamin D insufficiency in people with IBS. The biological evidence is implicating a potential influence of vitamin D on glucose homeostasis. Aim of study Measurement vitamin D level and insulin level among sample of non-obese IBS Egyptian patients. And detect if there is relation between vitamin D level and insulin level in IBS patients. Method It is a prospective cross-sectional study conducted to 88 non obese Egyptian patients attending the Family medicine out-patient clinic at Kasr-Alainy aged between 18-65 years suffering from IBS and fulfilling the inclusion criteria. They subjected to Measurement of Serum 25-OH vitamin D3/D2 and Insulin by enzyme linked immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA). Results The study showed that about 67% of the study group has vitamin D insufficiency and only 7.95% of them were having vitamin D deficiency and also one third of the study group were having low insulin level while the other two thirds were having normal inulin level and high insulin level. There were correlation between vitamin D and insulin level using pearson correlation coefficient of the study group. Conclusion Prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency among IBS patients. The study found correlation between vitamin D level and insulin level and those patients are more risky to develop diabetes
