Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Mechanical Design and Production Summary: The aim of this work is to study the effect of process parameters on the mechanical properties of dissimilar joints between aluminum alloy 5454 and aluminum alloy 7075 produced by friction stir welding and to optimize these parameters by using taguchi method. Experimental work was carried out at different levels of process parameters (rotational speed; traverse speed; pin profile; ratio between shoulder diameter and pin diameter; tilt angle; plunge depth and base metal location). The maximum joint efficiency, compared to the strength of aluminum alloy 5454, is 85.3%
