Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Science - Department of Inorganic Chemistry
This work had been carried out to investigate the coordination behaviors of two newly synthesized azo dyes with different coordination sites, towards some bi- and trivalent metal ions like Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II). The two azo dye ligands and their solid chelates were prepared and subjected to many analytical techniques such as elemental analyses, mass spectroscopy, IR, ¹H NMR and solid reflectance spectra, magnetic moment, molar conductance, and thermal analyses techniques. The chelates were found to have an octahedral geometry. The two ligands and their metal complexes were subjected to thermal analyses (TG and DTG) and decomposition steps were demonstrated from their corresponding DTG curves to throw more light on the nature of changes accompanying the thermal decomposition process of these complexes. The antifungal activity (Aspergillus fumigatus and Candida albicans) and antibacterial activity against Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) and Gram negative (Salmonella sp and Escherichia coli) of the newly synthesized azo dye ligands and their metal complexes were also screened
