ملاحظة الأطروحة: Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Electrical Power And Machines ملخص: Power quality problem is the most sensitive problem in a power system. Most of the pollution issues created in power system is because of the nonlinear nature of loads. Solid state control of A.C. power using semiconductor switches is widely employed to feed controlled electric power to electrical loads. These non-linear loads inject harmonics and reactive power components to the A.C. mains, leading to low system efficiency and poor power factor. Active power filters have attracted great attention and have been expected to be an effective remedy for harmonics problems. The control strategies applied to active power filters play a very important role on their performance improvement and stability. Recently, the predictive current control technique is applied. It shows an optimum performance in time response and accuracy. This thesis proposes a shunt active power filter using predictive current control technique to compensate harmonics due to different non-linear loads. Three different loads are used; RL fed from Diode Bridge, RC load fed from Diode Bridge and RL load fed from Thyristor Bridge with sudden current change after certain tim
