Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Physical Therapy - Department of Basic Science Summary: Background: Dowager`s hump is considered a faulty postural alignment that affects lower cervical and upper thoracic regions, where head became anterior to shoulders. Prolonged forward head posture (FHP) results in hump development, almost seen in females. That bad posture improved significantly with using McKenzie exercises, especially in chronic cervical pain. Purpose: to investigate the effect of McKenzie technique on pain intensity level, neck functional disability and absolute rotatory angle in females with Dowager{u2019}s hump. Materials and methods: Thirty female patients with Dowager{u2019}s hump aged from 38-59 years were randomly distributed to two equal groups. Group A (control) consisted of fifteen female patients received conventional physiotherapy only. Group B (study) consisted of fifteen female patients that have received conventional therapy in addition to McKenzie exercises. The treatment was applied three times per week for 8 weeks. Pain intensity level, neck functional disability and absolute rotatory angle were measured pre-treatment and post 8 weeks of treatment. Group (A): fifteen patients received conventional physical therapy program including upper back extension from prone then sitting, abdominal isometric and pectoral stretch exercise, Group (B): fifteen patients received conventional program and McKenzie technique. Results: The study group (group B) showed a more statistically significant reduction in pain intensity level and neck disability compared with the control group. The study group showed a more statistically significant increment in the absolute rotatory angle of the cervical region
