Dissertation note: Thesis (PH.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty Of Agriculture - Department Of Plant Pathology and Physiology Summary: Disease survey at Beheira , Ismailia , Sharkia , Quina and Aswan governorates as well as the newly lands at Toshki and Shark El - Ewinateindicated that root - rot and vine decline diseases can infect all cucurbitaceous plants , especially cantaloupe plantsThe most frequent isolated pathogens from cantaloupe rotted roots and vine - declined plants were Fusarium spp , Rhizoctonia solani , Macrophomina phaseolina and Monosporascus cannonballus , respectively and Mcannonballus , as a new pathogen , was only isolated from Behera governorateDisease symptoms were differed due to the pathogens the roots and / or the crowns of the plantsPathogenicity test in vitro proved that the most pathogenic fungi in vitro were Foxysporum , Rsolani , Mphaseolina and McannonballusPathogenicity test in the greenhouse confirmed the in vitro testGreenhouse experiment revealed that the inoculum was the optimum to produce intermediate infection and reduction of some plant growth parametersThe interaction among the causal pathogens indicated that Mphaseolina was the fastest fungus followed by Rsolani , Foxysporum , and Mcannonballus , respectively and no inhibition or overlapping were resulted between any two pathogensHost range test indicated that the commercial cucurbitaceous hosts , ieluffa , citron , cushaws , squash , watermelon , cucumber , and cantaloupe were more susceptible to the four tested pathogens and their mixtureMeanwhile , sunflower , maize , soybean , cotton , bean , tomato and Egyptian clover showed the least susceptibility
