Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine - Department of Dental Materials Summary: Purpose The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of some commercially available sports beverages on surface micro-hardness and shear bond strength of two recent direct esthetic restoratives and also to detect the effect of such beverages on the surface chemical compositional changes of enamel. Materials and methods for surface microhardness measurement: a total of 180 specimens were prepared and divided into two main groups according to the type of restorative material used; Group (M1) for nanofilled composite resin and Group (M2) for Nano-resin modified glass ionomer restorative specimens. Each group was subdivided into three subgroups each according to the type of storage medium used; B1 for specimens stored in distilled water (control group), B2 for specimens stored in Isostar sport beverage (pH 3.9) and B3 for specimens stored in Gatorade sport beverage (pH 2.8). Each subgroup was further divided into 3 classes according to the time interval (T) during which the specimens were stored in the storage medium; each class was further subdivided into 2 subclasses according to the temperature of storage medium used.testing machine.
