Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Economics and Political Science - Department of Political Science
Today, the borders of the European Union are being put into serious question not because of war or rapid European integration, but from growing calls from regions for secession from their mothers{u2019} countries. This thesis argues that regional entities such as Scotland in the UK and Catalonia in Spain are going through secession movements. However, the political, economic, cultural and external factors surrounding each region make the decision of seceding different in nature to each region. Through the analysis of each factor, one can conclude that Scotland is requesting all its demands in a legal political debate from the central government; whereas,in Catalonia feels oppressed when it comes to matters related to culture, but also to political decisions
