Background: Asphyxia is an important cause of morbidity and mortality among neonates. It can lead to multiorgan dysfunction and a redistribution of cardiac output to maintain cerebral, cardiac, and adrenal perfusion while potentially compromising renal, gastrointestinal, and skin perfusion. It is therefore not surprising that Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is common in the asphyxiated neonate. Aim: The aim of this study was to detect short term neurological outcome in neonates with birth asphyxia and acute kidney injury. Material and methods: This cross sectional study was conducted in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Cairo University Hospitals, included 50 neonates who have been exposed to hypoxic event and were followed up after 3 months for short term neurologic outcome during the period from 2018 to 2020. Gestational age, sex, (prenatal ,natal ,postnatal) history, maternal history, general and neurological examination was done (patients were classified according to Sarnat staging), laboratory findings were recorded. Cranial ultrasound with resistive index was done to all patients. Follow up after 3 months for short term neurologic outcome was done
