Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Physical Therapy - Department of Physical Therapy for Gynecology and Obstetrics Summary: Background:Postmenopausal women usually have problems like increasing weight, waist circumference and abdominal fat accumulation caused by obesity at this stage, many evidences have shown that carboxy therapy is effective in localized fat loss after several sessions.Objective: to asses effect of carboxy therapy on postmenopausal abdominal obesity.Methodology : Thirty obese post-menopausal women suffering from abdominal obesity with their ages ranged from 45:50 years old .Their body mass index (BMI) were ranged from 28 to35 kg/m2with their waist circumference equal to 90cm or more.Their menstrual cycle had stopped at least one year ago. Subjects weredivided into two groups: Group A followed a restricted diet with an average daily caloric consumption (from 800-1200 calories) and practiced aerobic exercise in the form of walking sixty minutes, 3 times per week for a period of 8 weeks, group B received carboxytherapy once per week for the same period of 8 weeks and also followed a restricted diet and the same aerobic exercises routine as for control group.Outcomes to bestudied in this research were abdominal fat thickness and waist circumferenceand body mass index for each subject.Results: the result of this study proved that there was significant decrease in abdominal fat thickness, waist circumference and body mass index in both group post treatment compared with pretreatment in favoring to the study group with the percentage of improvement was (41.14% versus 19.47%) , (13.3% versus 7%) and ( 15.14% versus 8.6% )respectively
